Upcoming Plays in the 2016 Season

This summer, the Mountain Playhouse professional theater is putting on three comedies. From July 5-19, the romantic comedy Social Security runs at the playhouse. This hilarious Broadway production focuses on an art dealing married couple whose lives are quickly disrupted by the arrival of meddlesome family members.

Next up is the comedic farce, Too Many Cooks, running from July 19-31. In this play, a restaurant’s grand opening is disrupted when the star chef doesn’t show, and things quickly turn into a recipe for disaster. With bootlegging at its peak, you can count on gangsters, mistaken identities and even a Canadian Mountie to run amuck during this stage play.

After Too Many Cooks starts the run of I Love You, You're Perfect, Now Change, a musical romantic comedy that takes the stage from August 2-14. Its script, by the prolific playwright Joe DiPetro, has received critical acclaim: Michael Sommers of the New York Times wrote that the play sports humor that is "timeless in its easygoing look at the American mating game and marriage."

In the fall, the comedic thriller Deathtrap runs from September 20 to October 2. It centers on a struggling playwright and his student, who claims to have written the perfect suspense play. The mystery becomes whether the playwright will kill his student and steal the play for himself – an intriguing premise that promises to keep the audience engaged.

Rounding out the season is the musical Cowgirls. It runs from October 4-16. The play is set in a Kansas saloon. The premise: A group of classically trained female musicians has to switch gears to save the honky-tonk venue from bankruptcy.
