Of particular note is the search for a young actress to play Amanda in Moon Over the Brewery. The character is a precocious 13 year-old girl with an IQ of 160 living in a small, Pennsylvania coal town. Of the role, Larry Tobias, the director, says “the script describes the character as a very “serious” girl. Although she is technically a teenager, she is still a child in many ways. The actress must be able to memorize long stretches of dialogue. Previous stage experience is preferred though not required.”

For 78 seasons, The Mountain Playhouse has brought professional actors to western PA, many of whom stay throughout the summer and appear in several shows. As a member of the Council of Resident Stock Theaters (CORST), the Playhouse works under an agreement with Actors Equity Association (AEA) and is required to follow AEA audition guidelines. Equity Principal Auditions (EPAs) are auditions at which all Equity Members are seen on an equal basis. Non-union actors may audition, but they are not guaranteed to be seen.

Mountain Playhouse Producer Teresa Marafino will conduct the auditions along with directors Chan Harris, Larry Tobias, Guy Stroman and choreographer, Jacob Toth. According to Marafino, the Mountain Playhouse is required to see a minimum of 125 people each day, but she expects even more. Each audition is a maximum of three minutes. The Mountain Playhouse will be finalizing approximately 20 actor contracts this season.
