Theaters throughout the nation are facing the threat of closing their doors and the Mountain Playhouse, celebrating our 70th anniversary season in 2009, is working hard to keep our doors open. As cultural organizations across the country are contracting in a grim economic climate, the Mountain Playhouse Board of Directors has embarked on a $100,000 fundraising campaign in a proactive effort to remain operational. A combination of factors including significant decreases in foundation funding and state government support has put the Mountain Playhouse in a dire financial shortage. The immediate future of the theater must be funded to ensure that our long-term future is viable.
