The Mountain Playhouse has long been a treasured part of Somerset County’s history, and today, there’s a renewed sense of energy and purpose surrounding its future.

With new Executive Director Scott “Biff” Baron stepping into the role, efforts are underway to bring the Playhouse back to life while honoring the generations of memories created there. Biff’s connection to the theatre spans decades, and his passion for the Playhouse – and what it represents to the community – is clear.

As work begins to restore and reenergize the space, the focus goes beyond simply reopening the doors. The goal is to create a vibrant, high-quality experience once again – one that brings people together, showcases talent, and strengthens Somerset County’s arts and culture scene. While improvements and updates are needed to get there, the bigger picture is about building something sustainable for the future.

Community involvement will play a key role in that process. The Playhouse is actively looking for volunteers of all kinds-from helping clean and prepare the space to supporting productions behind the scenes or even on stage. It’s a chance for individuals, groups, and organizations to be part of something meaningful and help bring a historic venue back to life. There are also opportunities to support the Playhouse through donations, which can be made online at www.mountainplayhouse.org. Every contribution – no matter the size – helps move the project forward and supports ongoing efforts to restore and sustain this unique community asset.

Looking ahead, the Playhouse will be part of Somerset County’s 25/250 celebration this August with a special production of Come From Away, a powerful and timely show centered around the events of 9/11 and the connections formed in the days that followed. The production will feature local talent and offer the community a chance to gather, reflect, and experience live theatre once again.

The Mountain Playhouse is a place filled with history, creativity, and connection. As these revitalization efforts continue, there’s a shared opportunity for the community to come together, get involved, and help ensure the Playhouse remains a part of Somerset County for generations to come!
