OUR CURRENT STATUS

My name is Scott Baron and I’m the new Executive Director here at the Mountain Playhouse. I was hired out of New York in 1986 to direct the shows and stayed on for many seasons. While here, I met my wife, built our house, raised 2 kids, several horses and many dogs. I have pledged to help re-open this fabled theater after COVID shut them down.

We were hoping to re-open this summer, and although the negotiations for the gristmill purchase have recently been completed, there are still several legal hoops to jump through before we can initiate repairs and begin producing shows again.

Although we don’t have a regular season, we are joining Somerset County in its celebration in August of the country’s 250th anniversary and the 25th year 9-11 memorial. We plan to produce a production of COME FROM AWAY as part of their activities during the celebration. We will only be performing 4 shows – 3 matinees and 1 evening show.

We’ve contracted with the newly renovated Somerset High School auditorium because we’re not certain our gristmill will be ready by then. The school is located adjacent to many of the celebration’s activities.

As an added feature, we’ll be showcasing a cast of talented residents from Somerset, Johnstown and the entire Laurel Highlands area.

If you are a Playhouse Volunteer or even just a FAN, we hope you will help us during this transition period. Volunteers will be needed to help with all kinds of things. If you are willing and available, please let us know by sending an email with your contact info to me at:

As always, we thank you for your generous support.
Sincerely,
Scott “Biff” Baron
